Thanks for sharing this PDF. I appreciate the efforts you have put-in to bring in different thoughts together. Its also not at all easy to bring all different perspective together under the same book but impressed with the details shared under the text.

I am keen to know plan for publishing remaining PDF (specially the "chapter i.e. not included in this preview release.".

Would you manually configure the HTTP in IIS using localhost certificate?

I want to run the Part 1 Hands on Labs, I ran the dependency checker tools and met this error message when I want to configure https in IIS : "this dependency could not be verified. Install components above this one first"

Any Idea what's the cause of this? I already installed the components above it and already ran the dependency checker as administrator. Thank you.

Hi,

I'm not an expert on Depedency Injection (using Unity). I'm wondering why the Lab03-AFrameworkForWorkerRoles is designed to be so complicated with lots of QueueHandler (Generic Types), Container Boot Strapper etc.

I'm slowly getting my head around on Azure Queue Storage etc.. I thought I knew a lot by reading http://azurestoragesamples.codeplex.com. But after going through above chapter, I'm lost.

Could anyone please high light the advantages of designed pattern used in Lab03-AFrameworkForWorkerRoles VS Azure Storage Sample (http://azurestoragesamples.codeplex.com/ )?

especially this code below drives me mad, not sure what this code is doing:

I was actually asking about the tenant information (Tenant class), not the survey answers.

We did this because the answers are only accessed by the Admin website and the info also needs to be reduced to a more consumable format for each survey. The individual answer is not as important as the overall answers. We stored this in blobs so it can be reduced by the worker and read by the application. In the Tailspin scenario, can you explain why did you choose to store the tenant info as a serialized JSON in a BLOB rather than storing it in Table Storage?

The whitepaper mentions mapping custom domain names to the public facing surveys app. What is the suggested way to determine which customer's version of the app to display when using custom domain names? How would I map customerone.com to surveys.tailspin.com/customerone/ (which would enable the me to get customerone as the tenant parameter in the controller). Would that be IIS7 rewriting?. Or should I try to use hostheaders to determine the tentant?

From the whitepaper:

This HTTP address uses the default port 80 to access the web role that hosts the surveys. Because there is no SSL certificate, it is possible to map multiple DNS names to this site. Tailspin will configure a default DNS name such as http://surveys.tailspin.com to access the surveys, but individual tenants could create their own CNAME entries to map to the site; for example, http://surveys.adatum.com, http://surveys.tenant2.org, or http://survey.tenant3.co.de.

I don't see any details on how to do the mapping anywhere in the document.

Its still plenty broken though- i did actually get deeper into the site but it is fagile and unpredictable :(

Eugenio you are a savior!!

I spent hours & hours on trying to solve this one. Commenting out the sites section in the ServiceDef file worked!! Only for the TailSpin.Web section of the file.

</Sites>

Whats interesting is when I commented out the higher level <sites></sites> it didn't work so I jumped down a level (red text area)...

Then I got an error in the TailSpin.Web Web.Config where it said I was missing a "type" atribute so I commented out the <filter/> tag (because thats where it indicated I needed a "type" and WALA

it works!!!

We are working on that right now. We are updating all the Azure Guidance to 1.4 SDK and add a few new things to the mix. It should be done around June. We hope to have the first drop (probably a pure conversion) out in a couple of weeks.

Are there any plans to update this project to use SDK 1.4? I'm talking just a straight conversion rather than adding new features

Using Sites, it should be easier to host the SimulatedIssuers under their own WebRole. It would only take a few tweaks to get the exact same code to work out of the box in a single Azure hosted service account.

I will submit a patch if someone would look at it and update the download...

I guess the OP is pointing out the fact that for the application to work out of the box, you need to deploy one part to Azure, and another part (the IPs) to IIS on localhost, which is not a very seemless experience.

I actually created a separate Azure cloud project for the IP webapps and updated the localhost URLs to use those so that I could have the entire thing running in Azure.

I'm gonna update the app to use Azure 1.4 SDK and have the IP websites deployed under different "sites" (once I learn how to use that). I'd be happy to submit these changes as a patch, just let me know the procedure?
